Sergi Holds off Veterans for Big Win at New Smyrna
Picks Up his First Super Late Model Win of 2015
Preparation was key for Anthony Sergi and his race team this past Saturday night.  Their hard work in getting ready for the 50-lap Super Late Model event at New Smyrna Speedway (FL) paid off with a big win at the half-mile oval holding off veteran drivers Wayne Anderson and David Rogers.

“We worked on my race car all week to get it ready for this race. We had to put the car all back together from the wreck during Speedweeks,” Sergi explained.  “We got the car pretty good during practice and I was pretty excited for qualifying. We qualified fourth with a 17.48 second lap.”

“We started 4th, so we were on the high side where you want to be. We got the green and followed Brad May and passed Wayne Anderson.  It looked like something was breaking on Brad’s car and I was having trouble getting around him. One lap, coming off of (turn) four, Brad slowed down a lot and Wayne hit me in the back bumper getting me a little side ways. I was able to save it and caught Brad again. Brad pushed up the track coming off of (turn) four, and I drove to the inside of him. I got by him in turn one and two and just drove away. Finally got the win and a big win after my horrible Speedweeks.”

The win was a big one for Sergi as he held off some experienced drivers to get the checkered flag.

“We had real competitive drivers like Wayne Anderson, David Rogers, Brad May and Jeff Scofield,” Sergi said.  “All of these guys have been racing longer than I have, and it was cool to beat that experienced field.”

Sergi and his team will now focus on rebuilding their other car, which was also wrecked during Speedweeks, and get it ready for the Bright House Challenge Series race on Saturday, April 11th at Desoto Speedway in Bradenton, Florida.
