Fast Car But Bad Luck in Hart Memorial For Sergi
Engine Woes Lead To Early Exit For Sergi
In racing you often need more than just a fast car to win races.  Anthony Sergi has had fast cars this year at New Smyrna Speedway (FL) and he's had luck on his side as he's picked up multiple wins and leads the Super Late Model track standings.  But luck was not on his side in the Clyde Hart Memorial on Friday, July 3 at New Smyrna.

Sergi didn't have the qualifying effort he would have liked as he started the 100-lap race from the 10th position, though he did put in a strong effort in the early stages of the race.  He ended up finishing 15th after motor problems forced him to retire from the race early.

"We qualified tenth and I wasn't too happy about that because the car was pretty good," Sergi said.  "We got up to about sixth and then I started to ride for a little bit."

He didn't get any higher than sixth, though, because that's when his luck changed.

"The water and oil lights came on, because I was running too hot and didn't have oil pressure," he said.  "I decided to bring it in to not blow up the motor."

Sergi parked his car to salvage his motor and to be able to race another day.

"I was here for the win and it didn't look like I was going to get it because of the motor," Sergi said.  "We decided to bring it in and keep it smart and have the car ready for next week."

Sergi will return to New Smyrna Speedway with his blue No. 20 Super Late Model on July 26.
