Anthony Sergi Posts a Sixth-Place Finish at Desoto
Final Test Before a run at SLM Speedweeks Title
For Anthony Sergi, the Bright House Challenge Series adding the Desoto Speedway (FL) track to the 2014 schedule was a chance to run another track before returning to the home base of New Smyrna. Sergi ran well Saturday night at Desoto's Bright House Challenge Series season opener, but a few spins left him outside the top five in a race that could have seen him on the podium at least in the Ice Breaker 100. He ended up sixth until on the final stat sheet.
"It was a good race for us and we haven't been to Desoto in a while but had a fast car," said Sergi. "I know we didn't qualify to well, but our car was good on long runs."
The long runs never came and the short 100 laps didn't allow for Sergi to regain the ground that he had lost.
"We didn't get many long runs and got spun out a couple of times but we managed to leave with good finish," added Sergi. "We also beat some of the people that are really going to be tough in the Bright House points this season."
New Smyrna Speedway (FL) will be the backdrop for the 48th annual World Series of Asphalt of Stock Car Racing. From February 14th to the 22nd Sergi will run each night when the Super Late Models take to the track which includes the final night 100-lap event, the Bruce Gowland Memorial. The 100 lapper is the final leg of the Florida Triple Crown that finds Sergi seventh in the standing.
