Anthony Sergi Tops off New Smyrna Season with Solid Gov Cup Run
Sergi and Team Proud of Improvement and Governor’s Cup Top-15
Anthony Sergi went into the 48th Annual Florida Governor’s Cup at New Smyrna Speedway already riding a string of impressive finishes at the Florida track that solidified the young driver as a weekly threat for victory.
Despite handling struggles and rear end issues in the race, Sergi and team were proud of their 15th-place finish and how they performed all season long.
“All week we’ve been fighting loose off,” said Sergi. “We were showing fast speeds and everything was all good, qualifying was great, then we went out there for the race and it was getting a little loose in and loose off. It was good through the center and it was good for the first 100 laps even when we were passing for the lead.
“Then we came in and took tires at halfway,” said Sergi. “Then we went back out and the car wasn’t the same ever again. It was really loose in and really loose off and I couldn’t get into the gas at all and that kills you here. We think it was a problem with the locker (rear end) inside. We had a problem with the gleason this week and now it looks like we’ve got a problem with the locker.”
Following his top-15 finish in the season finale event, Sergi and team were proud of their finish and ready to keep improving moving forward.
“It felt great today when everybody was coming up to me saying I’ve improved a lot since last year,” said Sergi. “And I think I have too and the team definitely has. Now all we have to do is fix some minor bugs and we’ll be like Augie Grill (winner) up there someday. Now we’re thinking about heading to DeSoto Super Speedway (FL) next week or maybe Auburndale Speedway (FL) for the finale there.”
