Third for Anthony Sergi in Clyde Hart Memorial at New Smyrna
Late Race Restarts Help Sergi Grab Top-Five Finish
Anthony Sergi started 10th in Saturday night’s 14th Annual Clyde Hart Memorial at New Smyrna Speedway and it was only a few laps before he started working his way up through the field without looking back.

“We qualified 10th,” said Sergi.  “So we did
alright to start.  I had a pretty fast first lap but
I messed up on the second lap so we didn’t
qualify quite as well as we wanted.  But when
we went into the race, we had a real good car
setup.  We restarted sixth on the second
restart and stayed there for most of the race.”

As the laps wound down, things got exciting
and Sergi used every caution to make up
ground on the leaders.

“We had a quick caution with 25 laps to go
and I started on the outside, sixth again,” said
Sergi.  “And it looked like Tim Russell missed a
shift or something.  He was restarting from the pole position, and the whole top line just went, so I got up to third.  With about 15 laps to I started racing David Rogers side-by-side for probably 10 laps before he got around me.

“We were settled into fourth trying to catch David and something happened to his car, I think he popped it out of gear or something, and I got by him and walked away with it and finished third.”
Sergi will be back in action, this time with the Florida United Promoters Late Model Series, at Citrus County Speedway on September 15th.
