Sergi Looks Ahead To Marion Edwards Memorial at New Smyrna
Hard Crash in September 28 Event Has the 18-Year-Old Motivated
Anthony Sergi had a successful rookie season in Super Late Model competition at New Smyrna Speedway during the track's NASCAR Whelen All-American Series points race. In his freshman campaign, he secured the Rookie of the Year title as well as the runner-up spot overall in the point standings. So it was a good thing the first hard crash of the year occurred once the point battles had already been decided.

A crash in the Super Late Model main on September 28th resulted in the catch fence in turn one getting torn down and a destroyed race car for the 18-year-old Sergi. He was ok, but the Oviedo, Florida driver was still smarting from looking at his torn-up ride.

"We got up to second and we definitely had the fastest car there. We got a restart and were chasing down the leader when we got right-reared, sending us into the fence," Explained Sergi. "I don't believe it was intentional, at least I hope not. The car is junk though, bent the center section.  It's too bad, I felt like we had a great shot at winning the race."

"I don't think that David (Rogers) wrecked me on purpose," Sergi continued. "It was a racing thing, but it could have been prevented. He didn't have the spot so he could have let off and tried to pass me the next corner. I mean the race was only seven laps old. On the other hand I also could have given him more room, so both of us could have prevented the issue from happening but its racing and we will be out there next week, racing the hardest we can."

It's back to New Smyrna on Saturday, October 5th for Sergi as the Super Late Models headline the Marion Edwards Memorial 100 on the fast half mile.
