Anthony Sergi Makes the Most of a Learning
Experience on the Gulf Coast
Picks Up Two Strong Finishes at P'Cola and Mobile
Young Anthony Sergi knows how to win.  He's been getting it done at tracks throughout Central Florida for years now.  But Sergi also knows that he's still in the learning process when it comes to Super Late Model racing.  While he's contending for wins against drivers that have been running those high-powered cars for far longer than he has, he's also gaining valuable experience each and every time out.

Sergi made the most of his learning-mission in Florida and Alabama's Gulf Coast region on March 24th and 25th.  After his debut in the Blizzard Series Super Late Models Friday night was rained out at Five Flags, Sergi and the ASR team hit Mobile International Speedway in Alabama Saturday for the Miller Lite Series event before heading back to Five Flags on Sunday for the Blizzard make-up.

Both events went well for Sergi.  He started deep in the field in both races, but rallied for a strong eighth-place finish at Mobile and an impressive 12th-place run Sunday at Five Flags.

The top-10 run at Mobile was the highlight of the weekend for Sergi.

"I really like that racetrack," said Sergi.  "It was our first time there and it definitely won’t be our last.  Tires were a big thing there.  I really tried to make my main goal to save the tires.  Towards the end of the race, my car really hooked up.  I drove up to about 13th when the caution came out for a big wreck.  I started 12th, got spun out when my power steering went out and got tapped from behind.

"We came in with a flat tire, but we changed it and went out there without power steering for the last three laps and came out with an eighth place finish.  I can’t be mad about that."

Sunday at Five Flags, Sergi gained valuable experience as he looks towards Super Late Model racing's most prestigious event, the Snowball Derby, held in December at Five Flags.

"I had to start in the back after not getting a good qualifying run.  I really have to work on my qualifying if I want to make it into the Snowball Derby.  That’s the main reason we’re here for these Blizzard races; to see if we’re ready for the Snowball.  I don’t think I ran too hard at the beginning, but at the end I think I should’ve run a little bit harder."

A 90-lap green-flag run added to the experience-gaining efford Sunday.

"I haven’t had a big run like that before, so it was a big learning experience for me.  I’m happy we did it, but we were just out here to learn.  We came down here with only one car for the whole weekend, so I'm pretty happy coming home with the car in one piece after two races."

Sergi's next race comes on Friday, March 30th, in the rescheduled Bright House Challenge Series event at Orlando SpeedWorld in Florida.
