Sergi Brings in Hard Fought Top-5 at Orlando
After Being Spun Twice the Florida Wheelman Still Captures 5th-Place Finish
When Anthony Sergi set out for Orlando Speedworld (FL) this weekend he had no idea the obstacles in store for him. After qualifying seventh, the Oviedo, Florida native was running solidly in the top-5 before getting spun, and the hits just kept coming.
“We qualified seventh and were just going to go out there and ride around for the first half of the race since it was just a 100 lap race,” said Sergi. “And around lap 25 we had some cautions for guys spinning out. I restarted fifth and the leader spun out so I got up to fourth and then we were on a pretty good little run there and some guy wasn’t really patient so he took me out and spun me out. So we went to the back and then got back up to the front, and by that time the same guy got behind me and took me out again.”
Although that seems like more than enough action for one event, his troubles weren’t over just yet.
“So like always, I was pretty mad,” said Sergi. “But I got up on the steering wheel and got back up to the fifth position and by then we had the guy who qualified third behind me and he tried to bump me out of the way. And after that we went back out and got up to fifth and just stayed there.”
Next on Sergi’s schedule will be a trip to New Smyrna Speedway (FL) this weekend with the Florida United Promoters Late Model Series and then he will return to Mobile International Speedway on April 28th. Sergi will take part in the entire 2012 Gulf Coast Challenge Series between Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida and Mobile International in Irvington, Alabama.
