Sergi Finishes Eighth in Final Pete Orr Memorial
Grabs Second Super Late Model Top-10 Finish of 2015
Anthony Sergi entered the Pete Orr Memorial 100 this past Saturday hoping to improve from his finishing position at the season opening Red Eye 100 at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.  He accomplished that goal with an eighth-place finish.

Sergi had a strong qualifying run after posting the third fastest time among the 25 cars qualifying for the event.

“The car was good, qualified third and was pretty happy about that,” Sergi said after the race.  “The invert was three, which wasn’t too good because the inside line going into turn one isn’t that good at New Smyrna.”

Sergi would drift back in the field, but stayed in the top-ten throughout the 100-lap event, avoiding big accidents.

“We fell back there at the beginning and got some luck on a caution and was able to restart on the outside and started to get back to the front,” Sergi said.  “Most of the wrecks were behind me, so we were able to dodge them, which is good and another reason why I like qualifying up front here.

“At the end, no one was giving me any room and it was like a mess out there, like it was a full moon night.”

On the track, Sergi finished tenth when the checkered flag flew, but due to two competitors being disqualified in post-race inspection, Sergi was eighth on the official results.

Sergi’s next event will be the Ice Breaker 100 at Desoto Speedway in Bradenton, Florida on Sunday, February 8th.
