Sergi Ready for Showdown at Governor's Cup 200
Youngster Hoping to Defend Turf & Build Momentum
Anthony Sergi wants more from his 2012 season.  On November 16th and 17th, he has his shot to get it.

The youngster from Oviedo, Florida has run 41
Late Model races heading into the 47th Annual
Florida Governor's Cup 200 weekend at New
Smyrna Speedway, but the competitor inside of
him wants more success as the 2012 season is
coming to a close.  While Sergi has run very
well at times and posted 16 top-five finishes
and 28 top-10’s, one thing has been missing
from his 2012 season - a trip to victory lane.

He plans to change that statistic during the Pro
Late Model and Super Late Model features
during the Governor’s Cup weekend at New
Smyrna.

"We’ll have a brand-new car for the Governor’s Cup and I’m really excited about it," said an optimistic Sergi.  "Hopefully we can finish the season off on a high note. We really haven’t had the kind of luck we wanted this season.  Hopefully we can turn that around and at least get one win this year."

Sergi did a masterful job in the 2011 edition of the Governor’s Cup by avoiding several on-track mishaps to post a fifth-place finish.  Now with a year under his belt, he's ready to take a part in the turf war and win one for his home state in a star-studded field of drivers from Florida, the Midwest, the Southeast, the Northeast and beyond.

"Last year was a lot of fun with Erik Jones (of Michigan) leading every lap," said Sergi.  "He gave a whooping to us Florida boys.  I think he sparked a little fire under all of us to try and get a better setup and one of us Floridians can get the win. Hopefully it’s me.  The outsiders are good, but hopefully us Florida guys can step it up and be good at our home track."

Sergi will be rolling into New Smyrna with some new pieces to play with as the last few weeks have taken their toll on the Sergi racing equipment.  Helping make Sergi’s No. 20 cars even better will be Florida Super Late Model champion, former Governor’s Cup winner and current part-time competitor in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Jeff Choquette.

“Our car was real fast last weekend and got into a mess-up on lap three," said Sergi of the last time out.   "Our car was hauling butt, though.  We went back to 15th and got all the way back up to third.   The Super and the Pro cars will both be almost brand-new because they’ll both have new motors and a lot of things freshened up to be ready to go."

Action gets underway on Friday, November 16th with a full day of events and the Pro Late Model 100 that evening.  The next day will have practice and qualifying leading up to the Florida Governor's Cup 200 at 7:30pm.
